Winterize Your Recreational Vehicle In North Carolina

Winter is around the corner and it is time to start thinking about winterizing your RV in North Carolina. It's important to properly prepare your RV for the winter so that when you are ready to hit the road next spring, everything will be ready and working properly.

Check to see if your unit is equipped with a winterizing kit on the water pump. Its valve with a hose attached (usually clear) that is located on the intake side of the water pump. You can also consider premium indoor storage (motorhome & RV).

Your other option is to make your own winterizing kit:

  • Disconnect the hose from your water pump from the intake side. Take a 2-3 foot section of flexible hose and connect it to the water pump where you removed the intake hose.
  • Once you have your water pump ready to go, take a 5-gallon pail and pour approximately 2-3 gallons of antifreeze into the pail. Insert the hose from your winterizing kit into the pail.
  • Open all the low points outside including the freshwater tank.
  • Bypass your water heater and drain completely. Relieve pressure in the water heater by raising the lever on the relief valve. Take the plug out of the water heater to drain.
  • If your unit is equipped with a clothes washer, disconnect the water lines and drain the remaining water into a bucket.

If you follow these basic steps, you'll have your RV ready for winter in no time. So, let's get that recreational vehicle or travel trailer winterized! You can check out online sources if you are looking for indoor and outdoor storage options for Motorhome in North Carolina.
